More Hand Milling Lumber…A Long, Slow but Rewarding Process

Arnold, CA…The last couple of weeks have been frustrating, slow, painful and starting to feel like I am getting a bit of traction again. The pad for the cabin is basically done and now the focus has shifted to getting enough lumber milled to start building.

One of the issues has just been moving logs around on the woodpile behind my house. Some of them even after drying for a year still weigh well over a 1,000lbs so moving them around manually is a bit of an issue.

We have a come along and started with some fabric pulls. They didn’t really work so we picked up logging chain. O what a difference it has made. Need to take out a few inches? No problem just move it a few links up.

So now while the process is still slow at least now there is a process that actually works.

We now have enough boards milled to start on the floor joists and the walls.

Another complication is that I threw my back out. If you have never had back issues count yourself lucky as they can make you go from feeling 50 to about 90 in 30 seconds. I am now back to about 75% so the work can continue.
