The Hewn WWII Jeep Build Begins

Arnold, CA…Our progress on our first little log cabin on Hewn Hill came to a pause when we knew we needed a four wheeler, small tractor or equivalent to move our logs and construction material to the cabin site. Since this is a project with an extreme budget spending $10 – $20k on a vehicle was more than our budget for the entire project. So what to do?

We found a 1944 Ford GPW Army Jeep that had been through a forest fire. It sorta survived the barn it was housed in certainly did not. So wiring, upholstery and basically anything that doesn’t live well at high temps is gone. The basics however are here and can be saved (We hope).

It also fits the theme as we hope to show you can still build things these days on low or even no budget. We hope we can get it running in under 100 hours of time and with as few of parts as possible.

As we build it we may not get a good return on our time but we will at least get a return! Restored WWII Jeeps are going up in value and you can still get most of the parts and prices about the same as a current vehicle.

Let the games begin.
