Arnold, CA…One of the biggest goals of a budget project is controlling costs. Our home is about 4 miles from the property where we are going to build the cabin. It is an old electric only house built in the mid 60s. It has baseboard electric heaters that can run $6-800 per month to heat in the winter.

Last year we decided we would try to heat it with only wood with most of that coming from brush clearing from the property. We didn’t want to use any logs or wood that actually had value or could be used for projects. So last year we went the entire winter using only sticks, rotting logs, pine needles & more.

This year we are going to try and do it again.
